Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has weighed in on Skip Bayless’s assertion that he would have been a bigger figure than LeBron James in Cleveland. Manziel, a former Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M University, was selected in the first round by the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Bayless gained attention for stating on social media that Manziel would surpass James in prominence in Cleveland. It’s worth noting that James was not with the Cavs when Manziel was drafted, as he was then playing for the Miami Heat. However, James returned to the Cavs for the 2014-15 season, leading them to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances and securing a championship in the 2015-16 season by overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the Golden State Warriors.

In contrast, Manziel’s NFL career with the Browns didn’t pan out as expected. Playing only two seasons and starting eight games, the former first-round pick threw for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Unfortunately, Manziel joined the ranks of struggling Cleveland quarterbacks.

While the Browns have experienced some success since then, making the playoffs with Baker Mayfield in 2020 and using multiple quarterbacks, including veteran Joe Flacco, to reach the postseason in 2023, James is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Manziel acknowledges that Bayless’s take was far from accurate and owns up to not meeting the expectations set for his NFL career.
