Fresh from inking a substantial four-year, $76 million deal with the Chicago Bears, cornerback Jaylon Johnson disclosed on Monday that he underwent therapy last year to confront issues associated with sexual addiction. Johnson, who delivered an impressive performance during the season, chose to open up about this private struggle to underscore the significance of vulnerability and to reassure others confronting similar challenges that they are not isolated in their experiences.

Sharing insights into his therapeutic journey, Jaylon Johnson discussed the difficulty of addressing this aspect of his life and the internal struggles he faced while excelling on the football field.

Revealing, “That was the hardest thing for me to open up to my therapist about, as that is something nobody knew about,” Johnson explained the dichotomy of shining on the field while grappling with personal growth throughout the week.

Despite the challenges, Johnson believes the therapy experience had a positive impact on both his personal and professional life. His candidness about seeking help aims to dismantle stigmas and encourage others to prioritize their mental well-being.

“In that place of vulnerability, I had a breakthrough. I had a breakthrough with myself, and I had a breakthrough on the football field,” Johnson shared. “I wouldn’t say it affected me [negatively]. If anything, it boosted me to be who I know I am.”

Beyond football, Johnson stressed the importance of self-improvement in various roles, such as being a father, partner, and future husband. He emphasized that these aspects of life extend beyond contracts and the football field.

“For me looking myself in the mirror and knowing who I want to be, I think that was more important than contracts, contracts, contracts, football, football, football. Like man, football is the easiest thing for me to do,” he reflected.

Acknowledging the challenge of therapy, Johnson stated that facing his therapist on an off day was even more uncomfortable than playing football. Throughout the process, he leaned on his faith, urging others to embrace vulnerability and seek guidance.

“I want people to get up and really share and get on their knees, be at God’s feet to let them really shine in their life and help them in many ways that he has helped me,” he concluded.
