Mark Venus, Birmingham City's interim manager, has been speaking ahead of the Southampton game

Mark Venus entered the Birmingham City press conference with a light-hearted remark, joking about pulling in the media for a chat. Despite his understated demeanor, Venus stepped into the public eye once again to deputize for Tony Mowbray and provided updates on various matters, with a primary focus on Mowbray’s health.

Venus shared positive news about Mowbray’s recent surgery, stating, “A little update… he’s had his surgery and everything’s fine. He’s getting stronger.” This update comes ahead of Birmingham City’s crucial Championship fixture against Southampton.

Reflecting on their recent away struggles, Venus shifted the focus to their upcoming home game, emphasizing the team’s strength at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, where they have won both matches. He expressed the desire for the team to be formidable at home and stressed the importance of doing justice to themselves.

Ahead of the Southampton clash, Venus acknowledged the challenge of facing Adam Armstrong, a player he and Mowbray coached for four-and-a-half years at Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers. Armstrong, a goal-scoring force, poses a significant threat, and Venus praised his versatility and potency in the league.

Providing a fitness update, Venus mentioned positive news about Krystian Bielik and January signing Alex Pritchard, indicating their availability for the upcoming match. He also discussed the progress of 19-year-old George Hall, emphasizing the psychological aspect of his recovery from multiple hamstring injuries.

Venus expressed confidence in Hall’s recent training performance and highlighted the importance of building the young player’s confidence as he works towards rejoining the team. Overall, Venus conveyed a mix of updates, insights, and optimism during the press conference.
