Do the Chicago Bears need to sign Mack Hollins in free agency this offseason?

The Chicago Bears face a necessity to address their wide receiver position in the upcoming offseason. One potential solution in free agency could be Mack Hollins, previously associated with the Atlanta Falcons.

Is it imperative for the Chicago Bears to secure Mack Hollins in free agency this offseason?

Mack Hollins, initially a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, had limited playing time in his rookie season and missed the entirety of his second due to a hip injury. After three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, he joined the Las Vegas Raiders, experiencing a career-high in snaps primarily for his blocking abilities. Subsequently signed by the Atlanta Falcons, Hollins’ fit with the team was not ideal, exacerbated by coaching staff changes, diminishing the likelihood of re-signing with Atlanta.

Considering Hollins as a potential upgrade over Equanimeous St. Brown for the Chicago Bears makes sense. Both are sizable receivers with proficiency in blocking, contributing value in special teams roles. However, Hollins boasts 941 yards in the last two years compared to St. Brown’s 385, with an average of 1.12 yards per route run compared to St. Brown’s 1.04. Hollins not only replicates St. Brown’s capabilities but also brings essential elements expected from an NFL wide receiver.

Given Hollins’ potential contributions and the reasonable cost to sign him, the Chicago Bears should contemplate expressing interest in him during free agency, especially if they seek a fourth or fifth wide receiver.
