JUST IN: The Houston Texans have re-signed defensive end Derek Barnett and linebacker Neville Hewitt.

The Houston Texans announced on Monday that they have re-signed defensive end Derek Barnett and linebacker Neville Hewitt. Both players were unrestricted free agents. Although the financial details of their contracts were not disclosed, reports suggest that they signed one-year deals.

Barnett was claimed off waivers by the Texans on November 27, shortly after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time with Houston, Barnett started in four out of six regular-season games, accumulating 19 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss. He also appeared in two playoff games, registering seven tackles and one sack.

Derek Barnett was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after playing college football at Tennessee. Throughout his NFL career, Barnett has accumulated 169 tackles, 24 sacks, 45 tackles for loss, 87 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He has appeared in 79 games, starting in 49 of them.

Neville Hewitt, who is set to turn 31 on Saturday, led the NFL in special teams tackles last season while playing for the Texans. Over his NFL career, spanning 129 games with 44 starts, Hewitt has recorded 440 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
