After spending a significant portion of his career with the Houston Texans, veteran safety Kareem Jackson is exploring opportunities with another team in the AFC South. Howard Balzer reported that Jackson visited the Indianapolis Colts today.

Following four-plus seasons with the Denver Broncos, Jackson found himself claimed off waivers by the Texans in December, marking his return to the organization for a second stint. The former first-round pick spent the initial nine seasons of his career in Houston, notably playing alongside current head coach DeMeco Ryans during the 2010 and 2011 campaigns.

However, Jackson’s contributions were limited last season with the Texans, seeing action in just two games and logging a mere 39 defensive snaps.

It seems like Jackson’s performance in 2023 with the Broncos was still solid, although not at the level of his prime years with the Texans and earlier stint with the Broncos. Despite his age and potential decline in performance, his coverage skills were still regarded highly, as indicated by his top-20 positional grade in that area.

Moving to the Indianapolis Colts would offer Jackson an opportunity to provide experienced depth to the team’s safety position. The Colts are facing some uncertainty at the position, with talks of reengaging with Julian Blackmon, their starter who has attracted interest from other teams. The other potential starters mentioned are Rodney Thomas II and Nick Cross, with Thomas having received an extended look in the starting lineup last season but ultimately being surpassed by Cross (and Ronnie Harrison) on the depth chart.

Jackson’s experience and past performance could be valuable for the Colts, especially considering the shifting dynamics and competition within their safety group.
