The former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Dave Campo, has raised some concerns about the coaching methods of the Washington Commanders’ new head coach, Dan Quinn.

Quinn, who is 53 years old, has returned to a head coaching position four years after being fired from his initial role with the Atlanta Falcons. Despite a successful six seasons with the Falcons, including reaching Super Bowl LI, they faced a significant defeat against the New England Patriots, losing a substantial lead in the third quarter (28-3).

Following his time with the Falcons, Quinn became the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys under head coach Mike McCarthy. During this period, he achieved recognition as the Assistant Coach of the Year, notably improving the team’s defense.

Campo, who observed Quinn’s coaching style from a distance, expressed some reservations. Speaking on 94.1 San Antonio’s Sports Star “The Blitz,” Campo mentioned, “From a culture standpoint… I’ll just say one thing this way. I know Dan Quinn very well. I was not in the office (or) in the building; I’m here in Jacksonville. I saw a bunch of the games. I saw that game (the 48-32 wild-card round defeat to the Green Bay Packers). I’m going a little bit on some hearsay, but I think the one thing about Dan is he’s a fine gentleman, and he’s smart, and his scheme was okay, but he was a little bit too buddy-buddy, I think, with the players, and that’s part of it. You can’t have a lot of accountability if you don’t stand a little bit above it of the people that you’re trying to get to be accountable.”

Campo, having experience with both Quinn and his replacement Mike Zimmer, pointed out significant differences between the two coaches. He highlighted the close bond between Quinn and pass rusher Micah Parsons, expressing doubt that a similar connection would form with Zimmer.

Despite Quinn’s departure, Parsons, a three-time Pro Bowler, remains a staunch supporter of his former defensive coordinator. Parsons praised Quinn during an interview with NFL Network upon learning of his new position with the Commanders, emphasizing Quinn’s character and expressing happiness for him. Parsons encouraged the Commanders’ players to appreciate Quinn’s presence, recognize his greatness, and play exceptionally hard for him, emphasizing Quinn’s care and love for his players.
